Seriously - still waiting on the rest of Cardiff. But just in case you wanted to know, Labour's Secretary of State for Wales Peter Hain got back in his constituency of Neath. Will he still have that title tomorrow?
Hmmm.....
I'm now starting to lose allies pretty quickly as 3am has rolled around - right more coffee...

Cardiff Central - it's been a long time coming, but it stays with the Lib Dems. Gotta love the student vote. Pretty convincing too.

Cardiff West - Labour's Kevin Brennan is back, again with little surprise (yawn). His majority has been effectively halved, but he's in after a rumoured upset.
Tories take the lead for the first time! C'mon, I want another big name to fall. Just like Portillo all those years ago!

YES!
Some controversy. There's talk of a recount in Cardiff North, where the Tories and Labour are neck-and-neck.
Cardiff North is the type of seat that Cameron needs to form a government, but is he gonna get it?

First signs of Nick Clegg emerging, as the Lib Dems are looking pretty weak so far. They just haven't converted the success behind the TV debates into seats. Obviously time will tell, but so far their success has been pretty limited.
Returning Officers are REALLY getting it in the neck over the polling station problems at closing time.

Well one result will probably elude me this morning. The recount at Cardiff North is likely to carry over into the day. I got this from Guardian Cardiff:
"The recount is underway - but if they don't look close to finishing by 5am they will stop and re-convene at 10am."
Oh dear. So I know a few of you will be forced to wait a bit longer. Hang on, you guys are asleep anyway!

The election night has taken a rather sombre, flattening turn. The Lib Dems have disappointed, no big names seem to be falling, plus the two main parties are refusing to concede or pronounce victory. As it nears 4.30am, I'm seriously considering bed, but there is talk of Labour's Ed Balls perhaps being the night's big scalp. Also Jacqui Smith is in 'trouble' according to the Tories. Do I hang on?

That's Life... Esther Rantzen fails to win Luton South, which stays with Labour. If you may remember, it was formerly Margaret Moran's seat - who completely took the piss on expenses. She wasn't just beaten, she was hammered.

Well we have our big scalp. Former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith (the one whose fella bought some pornos on her expenses) has been soundly beaten by the Tories.
I can feel a bit better about going to sleep soon, after seeing the look on her face as the result was read out....

Well I think I'm going to admit defeat. It is 4.45am and it seems now that the Tories will win by gaining the most seats, but it looks like they will fall short of the 326 seat threshold needed for the right to rule. I imagine by the time I wake up, the negotiations will have already begun....

Of course!
I've got a fever - Election fever! And the prescription? More Cow... no wait, just less sleep and more TV coverage,
I'm gutted to miss Green Party history as they grabbed their first seat in Brighton. I was lucky to see the fall of Charles Clarke just before I went to bed. But I am glad to know waking up that Nick Griffin didn't win Barking.
Cardiff North - Sorry Pete, it looks like Julie Morgan has gone (of course, you may already know this!). She was beaten by the Tories in a close recount by a mere 194 votes. I know a few people who will be miffed by that....
Still 40 seats to go and no PM yet.... sorry folks, the General Election carries on....

Yeah I'm surprised how comfortable it was for him, thought he'd have more of a challenge!
I voted for Dai
He's a damned good MP, I'm no Labour Supporter but then neither is he! He voted against the Iraq War, top-up fees etc.
That Cardiff North recount was a humdinger for sure. Some actual drama!
