Post Post subject: The Open
Another season and another Golf major.

My PaddyPower account is fully charged and ready to lose money hand-over fist again!

Notoriously hard to pick a winner, The Open is a lot harder to predict then the Masters and I got that one spectacularly wrong!

So I think a Spaniard is gonna win it following their summer of sporting success.
Sergio Garcia is the favourite in the absence of Tiger, so there's no money to be made thee, although I do think he's probably gonna win it - he was runner-up last year.

No, not me I've gone for Miguel-Angel Jimenez. He's had a great season, he's got a big curly ponytail and he smokes massive cigars!
And he's 25-1!

Looking for a home winner, unlikely! But I'd go with Nick Dougherty, he's a local scouser! Probably got the best chance.

I know nobody will answer this question, but hey I'll give it a whirl...
What's going on with the 17th green??!! This Royal Birkdale ffs!
(Sorry Embarassed)

I think Garcia would not be a bad shout myself Greg. The man himself seems to be feeling quite confident - "Sergio Garcia admits recent performances by fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal and the Spanish football team have put him in good spirits ahead of the Open at Royal Birkdale" according to the Beeb

From what I have read as well, people are not too happy with the 17th green - the course has been renovated since it last held the Open back in '98 and the 17th green used to be considered too easy - now apparently it resembles a skateboard park. The Royal Birkdale describes it as:

HOLE 17

Drives have to be hit between two large sand dunes avoiding the two new bunkers on the right of the fairway. With the ground here firm the correct drive will normall get some run shortening the hole. The new and re-modelled two tier green has been pushed back some 30 yards and is well protected by some severe bunkers and dramatic contouring.

Read into that what you will....

Haha, that's floored me that anyone has answered that!

Now come on Greg you know me better than that! I dont have the patience to humour you - I was actually following the golf in a small way whilst pretending not to Embarassed

I have to say, I am rather suprised at Greg Norman going into the final day in the lead - I thought he was a little bit old for that now! Clearly married life is suiting him! From what I gathered the weather was having a bit of an impact, which always makes it more exciting!!

Cheers Jen and apologies for any unintentional slur.
I knew you'd have at least one eye on the championship as you've often championed the merits of Mickelson's short game to me. Wink

Yeah can't believe the Shark is up there, I didn't think he was still alive!
Apparently it is that special Evert-love that has brought about the renaissance in his game! Smile
I hope he goes on and wins it or if not him then Poulter (Crazy Trousers!) or Harrington (Paddy!)

The wind is apparently causing them problems. The wind!
The lead at the moment is +6! These are the best golfers in the world. You're playing on the coast of the Irish Sea, what do you expect??!
They're such a bunch of lamers!

My bet - Jimenez, didn't even make the cut! He's no longer involved, he was like 15 shots off the lead. That's it, i'm gonna bet on something more predictable from now on - maybe Premier League relegations methinks Rolling Eyes

Nah, it's for Straighters too! Honestly.

Mind you, I did get my ass pinched once on a long Par 4.
But I have to admit that was my idea. Wink
