That’s Amore

TTFE is not only a game of football between mates, it’s much more than that. It’s a vibrant community of people, a chance to let your hair down and have a good old weekly natter to catch up with friends. One other thing which has definitely become more common now is that TTFE is a refuge from wives, girlfriends, life partners,  ladies, wenches and so on. Amen to that brother!

However there is one day in February where this macho-bubble is popped by the commercialism of Saint Valentine, where men everywhere shudder at the prospect of buying expensive gifts for their loved ones and dice with death when they get a shoddy bouquet of flowers from the local Texaco. You can probably guess that this year we have succumbed to this fate on 14 February.

I arranged TTFE on this date without a passing thought about Valentine’s Day (Mrs Newbury and I celebrate Santes Dwynwen in January instead you see, so I have an excuse) and I was made aware today by my partner in crime Chris and his wife-to-be that this may be a problem. Therefore we figured that the decision should be yours – I present you with options which you can vote for on the Facebook page here. For reference they are:

So what will you be doing this Valentine's Day?

So what will you be doing this Valentine’s Day?

a) I would like to play as normal. Despite being incredibly good-looking, I’m lucky enough to be single and I’m all about the football! Or my other half is incredibly understanding…

b) I’m not playing as I’ve made romantic plans. I’m the South Walian Casanova didn’t you know? Wining and Dining all booked for my bird.

c) I’m very likely not to play. I’ll probably book a table last minute together with the Texaco flowers.

OR…. Secret option d) I’m up for bringing my other half in a mixed game? Just think about it…

PLEASE NOTE! Let me know by the next TTFE game (7 Feb) where you stand for the game following week. If we have 10 men playing – therefore 10 people who voted for option a – the booking will continue as normal. If 10 men isn’t reached (and by voting you confirm that are playing if it reaches 10 men) then the game will cancelled.

Take it away Dean…

Interesting option…

Who would fancy this?

I would have sworn Pugh would have been up for it but I guess not… that must be why there are no posts in the forum about it!

Big G Return!

Gareth “Big G” O’Neill has rejoined the normal invite order and no longer wishes to be ‘last backup invited’

Given his attendance over the last 6 months (13 games), he rejoins as 13th person invited!

Sadly though, this will count for nothing tonight, as the fame is still cancelled.

Sophia Cancel Second Week in a row!

TTFE have been informed by Sport Wales that due to the expected sub-zero temperature for this weeks’game and the already snow-ridden surface, they have taken the step to cancel his week’s booking at this stage. In fact all bookings this week are cancelled.

As such, Joe Newbury has suggested some possible alternatives; a social event or a game at a leisure centre.

Having looked at recent feedback from the State of Play survey; we can see that people wanted the following:

SLODBN nights – not suitable for Thursday night… school night!

TTFE Xmas Meal – not Christmas anymore 🙁

Computer/Video Game nights – A real possibility… as a suggestion I could offer my (Joe’s) gaff and do what we did before with retro games? or keep it modern this time?

Paintballing – not suitable this week

Nights out at pub – a possibility… but doesn’t seem to interest people as an alternative to cancelled games!

Bowling – Maybe another organiser who offered would like to be on the job as stated in SoP?

A text message will be sent later today.

An alternative venue is currently being sought.

Professional Foul, Wrestling and Gate-Gate!

Sadly, TTFE’s foremost reporter Joe Newbury was not at the last game however I can’t help but imagine how the wordsmith would have told the tale of the last man holding another player back in what can only be called a professional foul.

Other issues that would have been a talking point for “Shabba” would have been the wrestling for the ball at one end of the pitch with TTFE’s worst keeper shouting “I’VE GOT BOTH HANDS ON IT!” but nobody was sure what he was refering to by the word “IT”. Some say bum touching went on, but Phillips claims, it was all about his balls and he didn’t want Rolan touching what was his ball at that point!

Wrestle me big boy!

Rumours are rife at camp TTFE that Phillips had a childhood wrestling championship and one source has even provided what they think is a picture of the player back at his best:

Or finally and most importantly, how Joe would have dealt with the issue of “Gate-Gate” where Chris Phillips made a scoring mistake when using the 5-bar-gate system… shouting for an additional goal from his team to help him correct his earlier score keeping mistake!

I think I love Beyonce in the “you put my love on top video” (the bit where she’s in the dance studio, not the bit where she’s in lots of various outfits)

Roberto Mancini suddenly realises that he’ll get no more free games until he’s washed the bibs!

However, Mario politely points out that it’s not 10.30pm yet!
