So a recap after the first round of matches

Group A

Currently through - Pete, Callum

Pretty boring group so far containing teams followed by myself, Joe, Pete and Callum, France and Uruguay played out a 0-0 draw and South Africa and Mexico played out a 1-1 draw so as it currently stands it would be Pete and Callum who would go through but there is a long way to go

Group B

Currently through - Ridout, Mike

This goup has both of Ridouts teams, one from Mike and one from Weller, South Korea currently top the group after a 2-0 win over Greece and Argentina are also on three points after a 1-0 win over Nigeria. Ridout would have one of his teams through and Mike would have his through but we shall see

Group C

Currently through Riv, Mike

This is the group containing England followed by Mike, there is also Weller, Riv and Greg who have teams in this group. After the first round of games England drew 1-1 with USA after a clanger from Robert Green (HaHa) and Slovenia nicked a win over Algeria so this would currently mean that Riv would have one of his teams through and Mike would have his other team through as well going into round 2

Group D

Currently through - Pete, Jon Pride

Teams in this group followed by Stu, Jenny, Jon Pride and Pete, We have seen Germany smash Australia 4-0 and Ghana nicking a 1-0 win over Serbia so this would currently see Pete and Jon Pride get a team into the next round

Group E

Currently through Billy, Chris

This group should be a walk in the park for holland after a 2-0 win over Denmark which means that they top the group, Chris has his Japan team second after a 1-0 over Cameroon, will anything change in this group or is it all over already

Group F

Currently through Greg, Jon Pride

This is where the defending champions are and after their first game they didnt look convincing against Paraguay but got a point and top the group on alphabetical order from Jon Pride's New Zealand who got a late draw against Slovakia and if stayed as it is would mean Pridee would have both of his teams in the 2nd round

Group G

Currently through Tom, Riv

This is the so called group of death and at the moment hasn't really lived up to that, My portugal team have only managed a point against Ivory coast and if it finished now that would be my sweep stake over so I hope things change. Tom has one of the favourites and they currently top the group after a 2-1 over North Korea. It would mean also that Riv would have both of his teams through.

Group H

Currently through Jenny, Stu

This is a group with another favourite drawn by Chris but Spain lost their opening game against Switzerland, the other game in the group saw Jenny's Chile beat Billy's Honduras 1-0. This would put one of Stu's and Jenny's teams through

Thats my recap after the first round of games to let you know where your team is and I will do another one after the 2nd and 3rd round of games as well to let you know who is still in with a chance of some cash and who is out after just the group stage

So after the second round of matches where are we at?

Group A

Currently through - Pete, Dale

This group could contain one of the shocks of the round with France possibly not making it through to the next round depending on results in the third game. Currently this will put Uruguay (Dale) and Mexico (Pete) through which in the next round at present could setup Uruguay (Dale) Vs South Korea (Ridout) and Mexico (Pete) Vs Argentina (Mike)

Group B

Currently through - Ridout, Mike

After the second round of games both Mike and Ridout sit at the top of this group and could both go through depending on results, This would see Argentina (one of the favourites) and South Korea in the next round. As stated in group A second round games would be Argentina (Mike) Vs Mexico (Pete) and South Korea (Ridout) Vs Uruguay (Dale).

Group C

Currently through Riv, Greg

This is the group containing England followed by Mike, and at the present moment in time they could be heading home. At present Slovenia (Riv) lead the group followed by USA (Greg). If England dont win their next game then they are near enough out depending on what the USA do. In the next round you could be looking at Slovenia (Riv) Vs Germany (Pete) and USA (Greg) Vs Ghana (Jon Pride)

Group D

Currently through - Pete, Jon Pride

No change in this group except that Ghana (Jon Pride) and Germany (Pete) have changed places in 1st and 2nd. Could be another shock here if Germany fail to beat Ghana and Serbia beat Australia then they will be out. At present as stated in Group C the next round of games would be Ghana (Jon Pride) Vs USA (Greg) and Germany (Pete) Vs Slovenia (Riv)

Group E

Currently through Billy, Chris

No change in this group either but Netherlands were the first team to guarantee themselves a place in the second round already. The 2nd place will be between Japan and Denmark. Currently the next round will be Netherlands (Billy) Vs Italy (Greg) and Japan (Chris) Vs Paraguay (Callum)

Group F

Currently through Greg, Callum

Another group for a possible shock could see the defending champions Italy go out but we shall see. Callums Paraguay have replaced Jon Pride's New Zealand for the team that are currently go throughbut will they stay there. As per group E the next round of games so far is Paraguay (Callum) Vs Japan (Chris) and Italy (Greg) Vs Netherlands (Billy)

Group G

Currently through Tom, Dale

Brazil (Tom) were the second team to guarantee themselves a place in round 2 and are now joined by Portugal (Dale) who thumped North Korea 7-0 to all bar book a place in the next round. The next round currently is Brazil (Tom) Vs Spain (Chris) and Portugal (Dale) Vs Chile (Jenny)

Group H

Currently through Jenny, Chris

The last group has seen Spain (Chris) replace Switzerland (Stu) in the top two spots but this group is still wide open going into the last game. Next round as stated in group G would be Chile (Jenny) Vs Portugal (Dale) and Spain (Chris) Vs Brazil (Tom)

I got a fiver riding on the Argies... so there's some hope for me!

No European team has ever won the Cup outside of Europe... and South America continues to dominate (none of them have lost yet).

But a fairy tale revival for Bafana Bafana? They'd play the Argies in teh second round if this French farce gets any worse and the top two don't draw, so for my sake I hope it ends there!
