Post Post subject: Music's first 'honesty box'
Paul is our resident Radiohead superfan, but I had to say a little something about this as this is going seriously going to revolutionise the way we acquire our music in the future:

Radiohead fans to pick album cost

Radiohead fans will be able to choose how much to pay for the band's next album, In Rainbows, which is available for download on 10 October. Instead of listing a price for the music, the group's website simply states "it's up to you" - and then adds: "No really, it's up to you." - Taken from the BBC

Truly astounding. The 'honesty box', where fans are placed with a crisis of conscience when they are usually expected to pay a fixed price, is going to change the face of music as we know it.

But what do you think of it? Do you think it revert music back to its artistic roots, away from the money sucking industry we see today? Therefore is this a bold and prfound statement? Or are Radiohead just pushing the boundaries for media hype? Is Thom Yorke just going mad?

But more importantly - would you have the front to actually admit getting the album legally for free?

Yes, as the only time I ever buy albums is if I genuinelly belive it is something I would buy. I have other albums that maybe I would listen to 1 or 2 tracks from but overall don't overly like the artist so I wouldn’t buy the album. On the flip side having ‘time shifted’ Pandora for months now there are serveral albums I have bought on the strength of 1 or 2 tracks (Xrayok being a prime example of this).

I’ve also started buying alot of albums off Amazon as its so cheap todo so $0.01 for an album with $4.00 postage to boot? While I can see ‘owning’ an album with out buying it and then purchasing it at a greatly reduced price ($15 - $0.01) is moreally wrong I think my actions are more than justified, music has become a method for cooperations to make money, some of the reccent albums I have heard are tripe, being sold in their thousands on the strength of 1 good charting single. Albums at £15.99 and even £10.99 are over priced, and no longer is music about the ‘live’ exerience, music back in the 80’s and early 90’s was all about the ‘show’ Aerosmith are a prime example of this with live pyrotechnics and on-stage specticals.
